Biography

Carlo Diaz is a composer and concert producer; Artistic Director of the experimental baroque orchestra Stile Nu, Production Coordinator for the International Music Foundation, and PhD candidate on the docARTES trajectory at Leiden University and the Orpheus Institute. As composition, arrangement, curation and history, his music takes a rhetorical path through the impossibility of originality and the elusiveness of the past. He has worked with ensembles including Stile Nu, the Nieuw Ensemble, wild Up, Ensemble Linea and Ugly Pug, and has participated in festivals including the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra’s National Composers Intensive, Make Music Chicago and the Tampering Festival. Carlo completed his Master of Music in composition at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in 2018, where he studied with Richard Ayres, Willem Jeths and Wim Henderickx. In 2016 he received a Bachelor of Music in composition and interdisciplinary arts from Northwestern University under the guidance of Jay Alan Yim and Hans Thomalla. In 2014 Carlo spent a semester studying visual cultures and composition with Patricia Alessandrini at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and in 2015 he returned to the U.K. to conduct historical musicology research at the British Library and the London Metropolitan Archives. carlodiaz.com stilenu.com
