Sting Sting Sting

Biography

Toronto's Sick Lipstick fuses no wave, punk, and hints of riot grrrl into a challenging, confrontational sound. The band formed in 2001 after the likeminded Black Cat #13 disbanded; that band's singer, Lindsay Gillard, and keyboardist, Mark McLean, recruited guitarist Allan Graham and drummer Adrian to flesh out their new project's lineup. The group began recording and touring early that year, including gigs with the Swirlies, North of America, and XBXRX; despite some recording hassles that occurred that fall, and the addition of new drummer Dennis Amos, by early 2002 the band was ready to record its debut EP. Sick Lipstick came out that summer on the Sound Virus imprint. Around that time, Sick Lipstick also appeared on a split 7" with the aforementioned XBXRX and Quintron. The following year, the band released a split single with Die Monitr Batss and issued its full-length debut, Sting Sting Sting, on Tiger Style Records. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
