Biography

Formed in Los Angeles, California, USA, as the houseband to the ABC television pop show Shindig!, the Shindogs comprised Delaney Bramlett (guitar/vocals), James Burton (guitar), Joey Cooper (bass) and Chuck Blackwell (drums). They remained a fixture of the programme until it was axed in 1965. The group also made records in their own right, notably ‘Who Do You Think You Are’, issued in 1967 on Leon Russell’s Viva Records. The Shindogs split up soon after its release. Burton resumed his career as a session musician, while Bramlett teamed with vocalist Bonnie Lynn O’Farrell, later Bonnie Bramlett, as Delaney And Bonnie. Russell assisted the couple on Accept No Substitute (1969), before helping Joe Cocker form the touring revue featured on Mad Dogs And Englishmen (1970) which also included Blackwell.
