Biography

Detroit supergroup, Dames Brown embody the pure essence of Motor City’s funk and soul. The award-winning vocal trio, Dames aka Athena Johnson, Teresa Marbury and LaRae epitomise the best of their hometown’s unparalleled musical heritage with their faultless gospel harmonies and infectious live energy. Lending their exquisite range to records across the dance music spectrum, their forthcoming debut album - released on Defected Records - will see them front and centre with producers and remix features from the scene’s key players. Dames Brown’s spirited live shows represent everything there is to love about dance music, with timeless vocals comparable to the likes of The Emotions, The Supremes, Donna Summer and The Pointer Sisters. In 2018, the trio signed their sublime gospel-house record 'Calling Out’ with producer Sophie Lloyd to Defected’s Classic Music Company which received critical acclaim. Marking the start of the group’s upward trajectory and reputation as one of Detroit’s most in demand supergroups, the release now amassing 11M+ Spotify streams is recognised as a future classic. Recently, their 2021 debut single ‘What Would Do You?’ sold out on 7” vinyl with remixes from house music royalty Louie Vega & Josh Milan and rising star Folamour. With a highly anticipated album on the way, executively produced by long-time collaborator Amp Fiddler and mastered by the legendary Herb Powers Jr, dancefloors can expect to hear The Dames unique authenticity very soon
