Born in Louisiana and raised in New Mexico, tenor saxophonist/flutist Doug Lawrence spent over 25 years making a name for himself in New York City. Doug has performed and recorded with a number of iconic artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, Buck Clayton, Dizzy Gillespie, Tony Bennett, Benny Goodman, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and others. For the last 20+ years Doug has been the featured tenor saxophone soloist with the Multi Grammy® winning Count Basie Orchestra. Doug has appeared on dozens of recordings as a sideman and has achieved commercial (Top 3 on the charts in USA for 20 straight weeks) and critical acclaim (Top Picks All Music Guide) as a leader on six albums. Doug continues to perform and record with many of todays leading artists including Rita Payes, Andra Day, Ledisi, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jimmy Cobb, George Cables, Louis Hayes and many others.
