b. James Elliott, USA. Ateleia is the solo project of Brooklyn-based musician Elliott, a leading figure on the New York avant underground in the early years of the new millennium. Taking the unusual name from a variety of legume, his recorded output as Ateleia explores minimalist pop, ambient, electronica and psychedelia, with samples and real instruments deconstructed and reconstructed to produce hypnotic computer generated soundscapes, similar in tone to the work of early 90s ambient pop pioneers Seefeel. Collaborators on his Ateleia recordings have included David Grubbs, David Daniell, Jon Philpot and Sadek Bazaraa, and the albums have been released on Xeric, Table Of The Elements, and Elliott’s own Antiopic imprint. Elliott also plays in School Of Seven Bells with ex-Secret Machines guitarist Benjamin Curtis.
