Biography

A producer, songwriter, and vocalist who prefers not to be called a rapper -- known most for his piercing scream, he also sings mournful ballads -- Jasiah built up a modest discography before he went aboveground in 2019, culminating with the 11-track project Jasiah I Am. After this, he kept up a steady stream of interesting singles, a handful of which appeared on his next project, 2021's War. Hits like the 1nonly collaboration "Ghostkilla" preceded Jasiah's next project, 2023's full-length 3. Before he became known as Jasiah, Malachi Pate released material under a slew of aliases, including Phreetherapper, a couple variations thereof, and Ja$iah. The Dayton, Ohio native turned a corner in March 2019 with the upload of a Cole Bennett-directed video for "Crisis" -- a hostile track originally released the previous year -- which quickly racked up views in the millions. The similarly aggressive 6ix9ine collaboration "Case 19" followed in April with distribution from Warner Music Group, who also supported the July release Jasiah I Am. The brief set featured "Case 19" (but not "Crisis") and displayed much more of the artist's range, from a cathartic ballad recorded with Travis Barker ("Heartbreak") to the distorted trap-metal hybrid "I'm Depressed." During 2020 Jasiah turned out an array of different singles including "Break Shit" and "Surf's Up," both of which later appeared on War, his 2021 follow-up project. After its April release, he continued churning out singles like "Deserve," "I Love It," and "Lockdown." This prolific run carried into 2022, first with a feature on Grandson and Steve Aoki's "Kult," followed by his own song "Earthquake," featuring jxdn. In early 2023, Jasiah issued a pair of highly streamed collaborations with 1Nonly, "Ghostkilla" and "Step Back!," the latter of which also featured SXMPRA. His third project, the full-length 3, appeared in March of that year. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
