Soltero plays a blend of fuzzy rock, jangly pop, and lofi folk songs. The band began in Boston in 2001 as Tim Howard's songwriting project, supported by a rotating cast of friends. In 2018 Tim moved to Berlin, where he met bassist Patti Vacek and drummer Ludwig Kreuzer. An overview of the albums: Western Medicine Blues (2017): a 4-track project that grew in scope, resulting in a catchy and mysterious bedroom pop album. Jamming the Gaydar (2015): a shorter album of jangly pop and hallucinatory folk, recorded at home in Brooklyn. 1943 (2012): an inviting full-band album with moments of fuzz and experimentation, recorded at Junxt Studios in NYC. You're No Dream (2008): A DIY 8-track album recorded in a Philadelphia basement. The Boston Globe referred to this album as "bursting with intimacy and mystery." Hell Train (2005): Soltero's first proper Rock Album, featuring the longstanding Boston lineup of the band: Casey Keenan, Ben Macri, and Alex MacGregror. The Tongues You Have Tied (2004): a collection of small, strange songs recorded with Steve Mayone on his 8-track during a cold Boston winter. Defrocked and Kicking the Habit (2003): a lush indie folk album shot through with turmoil and humor, and a longstanding favorite of the heartbroken. Science Will Figure You Out (2001): recorded with the Mobius Band. "The record recalls the Silver Jews' country offerings run through Smo's lo-fi recording equipment." - Allmusic
