Biography

b. 18 January 1944, Texas, USA. Guitarist Perkins was with Don Henley, later of the Eagles, in the late 60s band Shiloh. He replaced ‘Sneaky’ Pete Kleinow in the Flying Burrito Brothers in 1971, a time when they were frustrated at their lack of progress. However, their final album, The Last Of The Red Hot Burritos, is regarded by many as the band’s best work. Within six months, Perkins and fellow Burrito Chris Hillman had joined Manassas with Stephen Stills. Perkins was also part of the ill-fated supergroup the Souther Hillman Furay Band, in the early 70s. Perkins has played on numerous record dates and his credits include Tori Amos, Garth Brooks, Cher, Gene Clark, Bob Dylan, the Desert Rose Band, the Eagles, Roger McGuinn, Randy Newman, Dolly Parton, the Rolling Stones, Emmylou Harris, Al Stewart and James Taylor. In 1998, he was working with Jon Randall’s band in between other session work. In the early 00s, he joined the new line-up of the re-formed country rock band Mason Proffit.
