Biography

Violinist Antje Weithaas began lessons on her instrument at age four. She studied with Werner Scholz at the Hans Eisler College of Music in Berlin, and became a professor of violin there in 2004. She was the winner of several competitions, including the Kreisler Competition in 1987, the Bach Competition in 1988, and the Hannover International Violin Competition in 1991. Weithaas' repertoire ranges from Baroque to modern, and she regularly performs works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Ligeti, and Gubaidulina, among others. Weithaas has performed with many orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the Philharmonia Orchestra, and appeared as a soloist with such conductors as Sakari Oramo, Yakov Kreizberg, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Neville Marriner, and Yuri Temirkanov. She has recorded for CAvi-music, CPO, Es-dur, and Harmonia Mundi.
