Biography

Nigerian DJ Lambo fuses house music with Afro-pop, hip-hop, and techno elements and established herself as a record label executive along the way. Born in 1988, she started her career in 2008 as a radio personality before becoming the DJ for rapper M.I. Abaga and then signing to Loopy Music in 2013. She garnered attention with the single "The Motion" and two DJ mixes and won the Female DJ of the Year award at the City People Entertainment Awards in 2016. The next year, she became the head and president of Choc Boi Nation, an imprint of the Chocolate City label. Lambo soon released the EPs A Tale of Two Cities (2020) and Venus and Mars (2021) and was named the Female DJ of the Year at the Beatz Awards in 2021 and 2022. In December 2023, she released a DJ mix titled Africa Now. DJ Lambo was born Olawunmi Okerayi in Nigeria in 1988 and grew up influenced by the work of her DJ father Tony Lewis. She attended the Methodist Girls High School in Lagos and then studied at the International College of Creative Arts before embarking on a career as a radio personality in 2008 at Raypower FM, Rhythm FM, and Love FM Abuja. Lambo soon joined influential Nigerian rapper M.I. Abaga as his official DJ and signed with Loopy Music in 2013; the label merged with Chocolate City in 2015. She was featured on M.I.'s single "Millionaira Champagne" along with Ice Prince and Sarkodie in 2014. In 2015, she released her own single, "The Motion" (featuring Seyi Shay, Cynthia Morgan and Eva Alordiah), as well as a DJ mix titled Summertime Dance-Off Mix. Nigerian Entertainment Today listed her as one of the five Nigerian DJs to watch out for. Another mix called Girl Power followed in 2016, and Lambo was named Female DJ of the Year at the City People Entertainment Awards. She also started her own company, 707 Worldwide, through which she organizes music parties under monikers such as "Lagos Party Animals" and "My House on the Beach". In 2017, DJ Lambo became the head and president of a Chocolate City imprint called Choc Boi Nation (CBN), which cemented her reputation as one of the major forces in Nigerian music. She was invited to play at the Big Brother Naija house party several years in a row and released singles such as "Bebe" (feat. Victoria Kimani and Skalez), "Kunta Kunte" (feat. Small Doctor and Mr. Real), and "Bella" (feat. Iyanya and Lady Donli). She released a seven-track EP called A Tale of Two Cities in 2020, followed by an eight-track EP with Dr Caise titled Venus and Mars in 2021. In both 2021 and 2022, she won the Female DJ of the Year trophy at the Beatz Awards. In December 2023, she released her next DJ mix, Africa Now. ~ Christian Genzel, Rovi
