Jessica Lurie’s distinct voice was formed from the richly diverse and eclectic Seattle and NYC music scenes. As a leader, composer and collaborator, she performs in jazz, new music, experimental funk and folk scenes, touring extensively in the US and Europe playing saxes, flute, voice, accordion and more. Recent highlights include Downbeat’s 2016/17 “Rising Star for Alto Sax”, and the 2018 release of Jessica Lurie Ensemble: Long Haul on Chant Records. Current bands include Jessica Lurie Ensemble, Tiptons Sax Quartet & Drums, Living Daylights trio, Sofie Salonika, Slingshot, Ethiopian-inspired jazz Freethiopiques. She is a Sundance Film Composers’ Fellow, and received commissions and grant support from the NEA, Meet The Composer, Soros Fdn., Artslink, Mid-Atlantic Fdn., BAC, Seattle Arts, Pratt U., Great Small Works Theatre Co., Percussia Ensemble, Sound Symposium Fest. Performances/recordings with diverse international artists include: Taylor Mac, Devotchka, Fred Frith, Billy Martin, Mike Clark, Skerik, John Zorn, Cyro Baptista, Todd Sickafoose, David Krakauer, Bill Frisell, Jenny Scheinman, Indigo Girls, Mark Ribot, Eyvind Kang, Karl Denson, Frank London, Allison Miller, Vinicio Caposella, Nels Cline, Amy Denio, Kenny Wolleson, Sleater Kinney, Bernie Worrell, Ivan Neville. She received critical acclaim from Billboard, Downbeat, New York Times, eMusic, Jazz Times, All About Jazz, Seattle Stranger, LA Weekly, Earshot Jazz, NPR, and international radio stations.
