Some people find music but music found WAYI (pronounced [wa-yee]). Growing up at church, the 28-year-old songstress spent most of her childhood with the gospel as her faithful companion. After years of studying and covering her favorite acts, she eventually became inspired to take up her pen. What started as innocent stories and novels slowly blossomed into a bouquet of lyrics about the purest and most complex feeling: Love. With a subtle delicateness and a refreshing honesty, WAYI explores every petal and thorn of this universal theme, narrating her own experiences. The latter inspired her highly anticipated debut EP Love in Progress, released in 2019. Cumulating 1,1 million streams across platforms, the project even made its way to BBC Radio 1Xtra’s EP Top 5. The songstress has been invited to open for the legendary Raphael Saadiq, while also enchanting sir Elton John and respected media outlets such as Refinery29, ELLE France, DJ Booth, High Snobiety, Red Bull Elektropedia etc. On June 4, 2021, WAYI reveals her sexy side with her new single What I Want. The track follows Mind Mazes with editorial support from Spotify (in the local and global EQUAL playlists!) and a memorable appearance in one of Belgium’s most watched TV show (De Zevende Dag). Played all across the country on stations like Radio 2, MNM, TOPradio or BRUZZ, the song also ranked the first position in the Ultratip charts, additionally climbing its way in the Top 10 r&b/hip-hop charts.
