Biography

Ted Turner (real name David Allen Turner) was born in 1950. He began playing guitar at the age of 17 and in 1969 became a founding member of Wishbone Ash. While still in that band, in 1971, he recorded with John Lennon. Turner left the music biz in 1974, but it was a short retirement. The next year in New Orleans he hooked up with the World Man Band project. His next move came the same year, and it was a geographical as well as professional one. Turner moved to L.A. and began working in the recording/production capacity for a wide range of artists including Al Stewart and George Harrison. After five years of that, he moved back to England and worked with Stewart Copeland. The U.K. was not to remain his home for long, though as in 1981 Turner was bound for the U.S. again. After working with his own band, Choice, for a time, he joined Badfinger in 1982. After a tour with that group, the next few years saw him working on recording projects with many artists including Rod Stewart. When Wishbone Ash reformed in 1987, Turner was back in the fold. This time he remained there until 1994. ~ Gary Hill, Rovi
