Biography

An adept jazz guitarist, Adam Rogers is an in-demand sideman and bandleader with a bent toward edgy post-bop and fusion. Born in New York City in 1965, Rogers started out on the piano and drums around age five, and first became interested in performing after listening to Jimi Hendrix records in his teens. Also during his teens, he discovered jazz and began taking private lessons. After high school, he honed his craft studying classical music at the New School's Mannes School of Music. It was also during this period that he gained valuable mentorship studying jazz with guitarists like John Scofield, Barry Galbraith, and others. After college, Rogers played regularly with saxophonist David Binney and co-led the fusion project Lost Tribe. He also found work with such luminaries as trumpeter Alex Sipiagin, saxophonist Bill Evans, Steely Dan's Walter Becker, and many more. As a solo artist, Rogers made his debut with 2002's Art of the Invisible on Criss Cross, followed a year later by Allegory. Since then, he has recorded regularly with the label, delivering a handful of well-regarded albums including 2005's Apparitions, 2007's Time and the Infinite, and 2009's Sight. He has also continued to make regular appearances on albums by Sipiagin and Binney, as well as saxophonist Chris Potter. In 2015, he collaborated with Binney on the studio effort R&B. Two years later, he joined with bassist Fima Ephron and drummer Nate Smith for the genre-bending trio album DICE. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
