Biography

Post-punk years: Fàshiön Music Fashion was formed originally as Fàshiön Music, in Birmingham, England, in 1978, and consisted of John Mulligan (bass, synthesizer), Dik Davis (drums), and Luke Sky (lead vocals, guitar). At that time, they also founded their own Fàshiön Music label, and they released their first two singles: "Steady Eddie Steady", and "Citinite". Their sound was varied, often within the same song, shifting between post-punk, electronica, and reggae. Between 1978 and 1980, they toured UK and USA with The Police, John Cooper Clark, The B-52s (1st UK tour), Squeeze, and U2. They also played shows with many bands such as The Ramones, The Stranglers, Patti Smith, John Cale, The Skids, The Cure, and The Tubes. A then recently formed Duran Duran opened their shows. After releasing two singles on their own label, they signed to I.R.S. Records (A&M) , for whom in 1979 they recorded and released their first album, Product Perfect, as well as the US-release of the EP "The Innocent/Red Green and Gold/Sodium Pentathol Negative" In March 1980, Fàshiön Music released their "Silver Blades" single. In 1980 they also released one more song, "Let Go", on a Birmingham bands compilation called Bouncing In The Red (EMI). Lead vocalist and guitarist Luke Sky left the band, and the music business, in the middle of recording the second album. The book "Stairway To Nowhere" by Luke James is an autobiography of Luke Sky's time with Fàshiön 1978-80.
