Biography

Grammy-nominated clarinetist-saxophonist Anat Cohen has captivated audiences worldwide with her expressive virtuosity and stage presence. The New York Times called her clarinet playing "a revelation," noting her ability to evoke both joy and melancholy, while praising the clarity and intelligence of her improvisations. Anat has been named Clarinetist of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association every year since 2007 and has topped DownBeat magazine’s polls since 2011. Cohen has released 21 albums as a leader or co-leader on her label, Anzic Records, founded in 2005. Her latest, *Quartetinho* (2022), continues her acclaimed body of work. She earned Grammy nominations for three albums: *Outra Coisa: The Music of Moacir Santos* (with Marcello Gonçalves, 2017), *Rosa Dos Ventos* (with Trio Brasileiro, 2017), and *Triple Helix* (Anat Cohen Tentet, 2019). Born in Tel Aviv, Anat began studying clarinet at 12 and later saxophone. After her education at the Berklee College of Music, she moved to New York in 1999, and kept her touring schedule busy with her various projects. In addition to her performances, Anat is a passionate educator, sharing her knowledge of jazz and Brazilian music at institutions like MIT, Stanford, and Oberlin. "Any day when I get to share music with people – other musicians, an audience – feels like a celebration to me," says Anat.
