Biography

A journeyman musician with a versatile, dynamic and genre-bending approach to improvised music, Gary Husband is also one of a rare breed of instrumental performers in that his expression is divided equally in his capacity as a drummer and a keyboardist of international repute. His classical roots, his development in the jazz and jazz/fusion areas - not to mention his tenure in the rock, pop, funk and blues circuits - are all evident inside Husband’s distinct musical personality. His solo projects also reinforce his status as a critically-acclaimed writer and arranger in the contemporary music world. Known (as a drummer) for the extraordinary musical association he shared with the late guitarist Allan Holdsworth for well over three decades, Husband has also been featured (majorly as a keyboardist) with the legendary guitarist John McLaughlin since 2004, and since 1992 in band lineups led by drummer Billy Cobham. His array of solo projects and sideman affiliations with many other artists is vast and diverse.
