Member of Henry Threadgill Zooid for 24 years. Featured on six Zooid recordings, including the 2016 Pulitzer Prize winner “In For a Penny, In For a Pound”. Key player/secret weapon with important, award-winning creative artists and organizations at significant periods in their development. Drummer/cellist Elliot Humberto Kavee has performed and recorded with a wide variety of artists -- including Francis Wong, Omar Sosa, Joseph Jarman, Henry Threadgill, Steve Coleman, Don Cherry, Cecil Taylor, Ben Goldberg, John Tchicai, Glenn Horiuchi, Jon Raskin, Elliot Sharp, Tim Berne, Jon Jang, Rudresh Mahanthappa, and Vijay Iyer -- in addition to his own projects. Kavee's self-titled 1997 solo debut showcased his polytimbral/polyrhythmic drumming talents, playing several solo shows in New York, San Francisco, and France two years later. Besides music, Kavee is an actor and writer with the Tony Award-winning San Francisco Mime Troupe; he has penned several original musical plays on his own (and he is the only musical director to have won a Dramalogue Award in the troupe's lengthy career). Kavee is also a member of Frame -- a quartet which also includes members Eric Crystal, Dave Macnab, and Hillel Familant -- as well as a percussionist, cellist, and composer with the Club Foot Orchestra. He provided the scores for G.W. Pabst's Pandora's Box (performed at both the San Francisco Film Festival and at Lincoln Center) and CBS TV's The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat. ~ Greg Prato, Rovi
