Christophe Schweizer is an innovative trombonist, composer, arranger, producer and conductor. His interests connect Jazz, Classical, New and Experimental Music, Ethnic Music and Pop. Called “one of today’s greats on his instrument”, he was born in Switzerland on April 9, 1968. Very active on the Swiss scene in the late 80’s and following appearances at the Montreux and Zurich Festivals in 1991, he spent the 90’s in New York, playing with the Mingus Big Band, the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band and many others. Collaborations with Ohad Talmor, Davi Binney, Billy Hart, Jason Moran, Alex Sipiagin, Donny McCaslin, Ethan Iverson and others spawned his early releases as a leader, notably “Cocoa” and “Opus”. He arranged, conducted and produced the album “The Broader Picture” (Enja) featuring the WDR Big Band Cologne with legendary drummer Billy Hart, which topped several best-of-the-year lists in 2016. In 2019, he conducted the premiere of his 2-hour cycle “Silence is the Language of God” at Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg. 2020 saw him release the album “Stream” (Enja) with a.o. Pablo Held and Billy Hart. “Plenitude”, a collaboration with the legendary trombonist Raul de Souza, which Schweizer helped produce and arrange, is being released in 2021.
