Founded in 1993 by Vladimir Delman, the “Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano”, is considered one of the most prestigious Italian symphony orchestras today. The Orchestra made its debut on November 13rd 1993, conducted by Vladimir Delman in the “Conservatorio di Milano” and celebrated the renovation of the “Auditorium di Milano Fondazione Cariplo” on October 6th 1999, with Mahler’s Symphony n. 2 under the baton of Riccardo Chailly. The venue, which since then is its official home, is acoustically and aesthetically highly regarded, making it one of Italy’s best concert halls. From its inception, the Orchestra has been led by highly distinguished Music Directors such as Riccardo Chailly (1999-2005), Zhang Xian (2009-2016), and Claus Peter Flor (2017-2022); and it has presented a long list of highly reputable conductors (such as C. M. Giulini, G. Prêtre, P. Maag, H. Blomstedt, R. Muti, A. Pappano, V. Gergiev, V. Jurovsky, G. Noseda, D. Oren) and internationally acclaimed soloists (such as M. Argerich, S. Accardo, N. Freire, Y. Bronfman, L. Zilberstein, J. D. Florez, J. Kaufmann, among others). The new Music Director, starting from the 2024/25 season, is Emmanuel Tjeknavorian. The Orchestra is often invited to perform in celebrated concert halls around Italy and abroad, including Germany, France, Spain, Japan, USA, Russia, and South America, among others.
