Biography

Composer, bassoonist and violinist who more than likely learned music at the Waldeck court. (His wife was Maria Magdelena Ritter probably of the Mannheim family of musicians.) Eichner travelled to Paris and then London where he participated in concerts of J.C. Bach's compositions. In the last years of his short life he served in the court of Friedrich Wilhelm II, Crown Prince of Prussia. Productively, Eichner's music included symphonies, concertos, chamber music and vocal pieces. Keyboard trios were written in two movements and the symphonies in three. The essence of his individual merits are found in his symphonic works. He tried new ideas in structure and content, found an era of comfort and consistency in form, and was eventually able to combine his experimentation with his stable structures. Pathos and emotion were a characteristic of most of his music and in combination with his later substance provided an artistic expression beyond mere manufacture. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
