Biography

Garsi was a superb lutenist and composer who studied in Rome. His reputation quickly grew and he was called to Parma in service to Duke Ranuccio I at the Farnese court. Forty-five compositions, at least, were written by Garsi (including two for keyboard), primarily for the lute. His style was conservative and the settings were predominantly dances. Some of his sons and grandsons were also noted lutenists. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
