Biography

From an early age, growing up in Harlem, Mashonda was captivated by the mosaic of arts, music, photography and culture that surrounded her. At age 18, Mashonda landed an impressive music publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music. Later in her career she collaborated with Brooklyn-bred rapper JAY-Z on "Girl's Best Friend", for the soundtrack to the film Blue Streak. The song was also featured as a bonus track on his fourth studio album Vol. 3...Life and Times of S. Carter. Tifrere's vocals also appeared on Ruff Ryders Entertainment artists DMX, The Lox and Eve's debut studio album Let There Be Eve...Ruff Ryders' First Lady. She was also featured on the tracks "Gotta Man" and "Love Is Blind", by Eve. In 2004, Tifrere started work on her debut album January Joy while signed to Clive Davis’ J Records. While at work on her album she made guest appearances on Cassidy's "Get No Better" as well Fat Joe's song "Listen Baby". Her album was supported by two singles, "Blackout" featuring Snoop Dogg and "Back of da Club". In September 2021, Mashonda resurfaced worldwide by way of a viral TikTok video to a song that she recorded in the early 2000’s called Love Changes/Honey, I See You. To date the video has been remade over 700k times on TikTok and has streamed over 3 million times on YouTube with an additional 3 million+ on Spotify. Mashonda's forthcoming EP Note to Self is slated for a Fall 2022 release.
