Gabriel Prokofiev is a composer and producer of classical and electronic music. He has composed 7 concertos, and his Concerto for Turntables has become one of the most widely performed concertos composed in the 21st century. His orchestral works have been performed by Seattle Symphony, Detroit Symphony, St Petersburg Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic, MDR Leipzig, Buenos Aires Filharmonica (to name few). He has composed extensively for contemporary dance (Stuttgarter Ballet, Rambert Dance, Birmingham Royal Ballet, among others). He cut his musical teeth in the 00s producing electronic dance music and Grime, before returning to his classical roots with a new urban-influenced musical vocabulary. Gabriel is also an events curator, producer and founder of the Nonclassical record label and club night, home to a host of artists who defy conventions. Through Nonclassical, he has been one of the leading proponents of presenting classical music in non-traditional venues; and he regularly performs in East London nightclubs, warehouses and electronic music festivals, often DJing and doing live remixes of the works just performed. He is published by Mute Song, and lives in Hackney, London, with his wife and three children.
