NHS OUR PRECIOUS THING (LUB DUP) By Dr Hank Wangford “NHS is our Country’s Soul” "Our Precious Thing" was written by Hank Wangford after a complex five hour operation for atrial fibrillation at @HammersmithHospital. Waking in ICU full of anaesthetic and medications he wrote the chorus, railing against people bad mouthing the @NHS and ready to carve it up. He thought the NHS is the Soul of our country and must be fought for. Lose it and we lose our soul. Through a week of Intensive Care he wrote the verses with monitor machines beeping around him. After working as a doctor in Women’s sexual health care and contraception for nearly fifty years, it’s Hank’s love song to the National Health. LUB DUP is what cardiologists call the normal heart beat. Sounds like Loved Up but it isn’t… It's Reggae style, one of Hank’s earlier influences - RnB, soul and Reggae - before @GramParsons converted him to Country. He performed a version with @BillyBragg at @Glastonbury three weeks after Hammersmith. Recorded in Norwich, one of the UK’s Reggae epicentres, by Jose McGill of @Vagaband fame.
