Jauchzt, ihr frohen Christenscharen

Jauchzt, ihr frohen Christenscharen

Biography

A student of Pitzler, Heinichen and Kauffmann Forster acceded to positions in Merseburg (traveling to Dresden and Prague where he met Fux, Caldara and Conti), Rudolstadt and possibly Sonderhausen. He composed over 300 pieces of music but only a comparable few can definitiely be attributed to him as his christian name is problematic. The church compositions were admired and the instrumental music represents the French overture via structure and the use of the timbres of the instruments. Forster's small symphonies were clear indications of the composer's awareness of the Italian style and his chamber music was comparable to that of Telemann. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
