Gavin Hardkiss is a producer, DJ, label owner and author. He grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa and lives in San Francisco where he runs the Hardkiss Music boutique record label. Gavin has released five albums under the guise of Hawke. He also releases music with Nigerian artist Bisi at Spirit of Pinboi and with Hardkiss brothers as Hardkiss. Other aliases include Enlight, Curious Yellow and Lower Haight High Hitters. Recent releases include the Hawke albums Dark Art of Light Work and Love In Stars, and the singles Lovaboat, Triumph of the Therapeutic, Grapeseed Meditation, WarPeace and Sunshine People on Hardkiss Music. In 2020, he released the 18 song album Dark Art of Light Work on Bandcamp together with a book. Miami label Do Not Sit On The Furniture released the EP Perc Groove in 2021. SF label Taul Boy released Afrodruul in 2023. He has remixed the likes of Brazilian Girls, Youssou N’Dour, Mazzy Star, Elton John and Michael Franti, and performed alongside Afrika Bambaataa, Derrick May, Snoop Dogg and The Buena Vista Social Club. The song Mundo Via Afrika was featured on the official Sony World Cup album “Hello Africa,” alongside the best of contemporary African musicians. He has also written two books. Cubic Lust is a fictional account of a DJs adventure in the underworld of Hong Kong. The Dark Art of Light Work delves into esoteric ideas of how imagination creates reality.
