Biography

Maserati is a band formed in 2000 in Athens, Georgia. Originally conceived as mostly-instrumental post rock, their sound evolved towards psychedelic rock, krautrock, and even moments of techo. Over their two decades as a band they have honed a distinctive sound characterized by soaring guitar hooks and a driving rhythm section. While earlier albums are more dynamic and contemplative, the bulk of the band's catalog embraces energetic and heavy danceable rock once aptly described as "Moroder Metal." In 2000, Maserati celebrated their 20-year anniversary by releasing Enter the Mirror, their first album in five years. Produced by the band and mixed by Grammy-winning producer, John Congleton (Explosions In The Sky, Swans, Angel Olsen), Enter the Mirror features Maserati’s most compelling mélange of triumphant guitar hooks, abstract synth-pop, and Wax Trax-inspired noise anthems. The gated drums of Phil Collins and chorus-drenched guitars of INXS are prominent influences paired to magnificent effect with the increasingly dystopian lyrical themes. In addition to longtime members Coley Dennis, Matt Cherry, Chris McNeal, and Mike Albanese, Maserati are joined on Enter the Mirror by friends and collaborators, Bill Berry (R.E.M.), Owen Lange, and Alfredo Lapuz Jr. Between 2021 and 2023, the band's record label Temporary Residence Ltd. reissued, remastered, redesigned and repressed most of the band's catalog.
