Nicolas was born in Brussels on July 19, 1964. He started playing the guitar at the age of 6. He studied folk guitar with Belgian guitarist Benjamin Bertrand and then modern jazz guitar with internationally acclaimed jazz guitarist Philip Catherine. Nicolas started playing the electric bass at 13. Between the age of 12 and 15, he played live with several artists, such as: Philip Catherine, Larry Coryell, Belgian group Cos or Belgian singer Maurane. He joined the quartet of jazz guitarist Christian Escoudé at 16, and then the Philip Catherine Quartet with American sax player Charlie Mariano and Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu a year later. Meanwhile, he started a career as a studio musician and has been involved in hundreds of recordings since. At the age of 20 he joined the Jasper van't Hof's Pili Pili project with singer Angelique Kidjo. He also started a career as a music producer. During the 90’s, Nicolas was involved as composer, arranger and producer of female Burundian artist Khadja Nin’s albums. He worked as soundtrack co-composer with Eric Serra on the MGM's feature films Rollerball and Bullet Proof Monk. Nicolas has also been working live or in studios with a lot of artists. Since 2005, he has been touring the world and recording albums with British guitarist Dominic Miller. Since 2015, he has also been a member of French artist Francis Cabrel’s backing band. In 2019, he toured the US and Europe playing the bass with Sting during his My Songs Tour.
