Biography

This Italian composer and violinist wrote a number of operas, oratorios and sacred vocal music. The operas and oratorios emphasized the texture of the words in the content of what was being scored and the use of interesting dynamic markings for the arias. The sacred vocal music demonstrates the interest and awareness Predieri had for composing for different independent voices as well as multiple choirs. He was educated primarily by family members as well as Bini and Vitali. Predieri served as a choir master in Bologna and his opera, "Partenope," opened the Teatro Marsigli-Rossi there. He also had a good relationship with Fux whom he met while serving in Vienna. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
