Biography

b. 19 August 1945, Wales. Godding is a self-taught guitarist who started his professional careerin the late 60s in the rock bands Blossom Toes and B.B. Blunder before John McLaughlin’s 1969 debut Extrapolation ‘opened the door to jazz’. He played with Magma and Dick Morrissey before performing with Keith Tippett’s band Centipede in the early 70s. Since then Godding has played with many British musicians but has worked most regularly with Mike Westbrook who describes him as ‘one of the truly great guitarists’. His playing reflects his own eclectic taste in guitarists, which ranges from McLaughlin right through to Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix. Godding also wrote material with UK singer-songwriter Kevin Coyne.
