Biography

In the late ’90s, The Grassy Knoll was on the leading edge of a new sound, a darkly artful mix of the electric and the organic, of digital sampling and analog virtuosity. It was rock, jazz and electronica melded into a sly, seething, forward-minded music – “industrial-strength beats vying with serpentine sax solos, ambient-noir atmospheres cloaking coiled aggression... Cut-and-paste style, The Grassy Knoll blurs the line between Birdland and clubland” (Billboard). The albums featured the likes of Sonic Youth guitarist Thurston Moore, while tastemakers from Shirley Manson of Garbage to guitarist Vernon Reid of Living Colour praised LPs The Grassy Knoll (1994), Positive (1996) and III (1998). The spoken-word-laced Short Stories (2003) has been reissued as Short Stories Redux. The Grassy Knoll returned in late 2014 with the album Electric Verdeland Vol. 1, which included a lineup of guest vocalists. Fall 2020’s EP01 was the first in a series of EPs featuring new and recontextualized music.
