Outsider Pop artists Stealing Sheep emerged from the Liverpool music scene in 2011 with their debut Diamond Sun (released by Heavenly Recordings). The Scouse supergroup Emily Lansley (keys, Guitars, Vocals), Luciana Mercer (drums, vocals) & Rebecca Hawley (keys, vocals) had their first viral sensation track ‘Shut Eye’ on this debut. This early manifestation of weirdo psychedelic-folk and death-march drum beats was dubbed as ‘pagan pop’ by The Guardian and their vivid harmony style and surfy guitars sparked a whirlwind of festival billings and magnetised a cult following in the UK and Europe, with tour dates supporting the likes of Saint Vincent, Django Django & Everything Everything. Their 2015 follow-up ‘Not Real’ featured self-produced ‘surrealist’ sonics, retro synthesisers and casio beats, received from fans who delved further into their unique world. The band’s infectious mentality for creating visual-pop continued in their third album ‘Big Wows’, which echoed the electronic themes of Not Real and twisted in darker disco sensibilities with extra sugariness and melodic-dance grooves. Lockdown saw them make a departure from their usual ear-worm bangers with the release of a sci-fi soundtrack that featured as part of the FIRE RECORDS ‘Imagined Scores Series’. This was in collaboration with The Radiophonic Workshop who inspired a follow-up conceptual album - ‘Wow Machine’, which featured the chopped up and remixed ‘foley tapes’ of electronic pioneer Delia Derbyshire.
