Biography

Barış Manço was without doubt the most successful musician of his generation. He first appeared on stage aged 15 (1958) multi-instrumentalist Manço also played guitar/keyboards on many recordings. In an interview he once stated: “I did not come to this world as a singer, I came here to share my ideas and thoughts” this sometimes happened with song, sometimes with TV programs, so in 1988 he started a weekly TV program called from 7 to 77, which ran for 10 years with 368 episodes. Always ahead of his time, he recorded the first ever instance of Turkish folk music being arranged in a western rock style, recorded in 1962 using bass, drums, & guitars (Çıt Çıt Twist, Kızılcılar, Urfanın Etrafı), while Dream Girl is one of the first songs Barış Manço ever wrote, he would later become one of the best song writers in modern Turkish music. Recording predominately singles between 1962 and 1974, he recorded his first album in 1975 called 2023, this album marked his start with electronic music. Between 1975 and 1999 he recorded 13 albums, including a Live in Japan album. During his 40 years in music Barış Manço recorded over 300 songs, made over 400 TV shows, and gave around 2 thousand concerts, for his funeral millions gathered together singing his songs, now over 20 years after his death a new generation who was not even born when he died love and listen to his songs.
