A master of the hurdy-gurdy, Dominique Regef has adapted the chordophone instrument to both traditional medieval music and improvisation. In reviews of his solo album, Tourneries, recorded with soprano saxophonist Michel Doneda and electric guitarist Dominique Repecaud, Eight claimed that Regef has "transformed an instrument of antiquity into something utterly contemporary," while the Wire wrote that he "creates an intense soundscape of whirling strings, buzzing drones, and strident polyphonic effects akin to an electronic keyboard." ~ Craig Harris
