Words Came Back To Me

Strange Symphony

Biography

Two time Grammy Award Winner, Sonya Kitchell is a songstress with a voice that is unadorned and true. Weaving folk and psychedelia, Kitchell’s melodies blend a raw rock ‘n roll spirit together with a modern twist. Based in Brooklyn NY, she has toured the globe many times over in support of her internationally acclaimed records. Kitchell spent a year collaborating with the legendary Herbie Hancock on his Grammy Award winning album, River: The Joni Letters, winning two Grammys — the first for her work on River: The Joni Letters as a vocalist and later for her work on Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Revelator as a writer. Her prolific, illustrious career is marked by collaborations with respected artists, including Joni Mitchell, Wayne Shorter, Jackson Brown, Reggie Watts, Blake Mills, The Barr Brothers, Dap Kings, Ben Harper and Stewart Lerman. In 2012 she became a permanent touring member of legendary Danish shoegaze band, Blue Foundation, penning several songs on their latest release Bloodmoon (2017). Most recently, Kitchell joined forces with Neal Evans (Jack White, Soulive) to form the psych-pop power duo, “+Co” releasing Strange Symphony (2020). Combining irreverent, unhurried vocals Kitchell’s melodies soar over gritty Stacks-like guitars, layered with space-age synths and breakbeats provided by Evans. Undeniably infectious and unapologetically raw, +Co finds its roots in the past while creating something distinctly their own, providing an electric shock to a classic sound.
