Biography

Jan Vogler is one of the great cellists of our time. He is especially known for his beautiful and expressive sound and his broad repertoire. While he made his career with his sophisticated interpretations of the classical works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorak and Schumann, he soon developed unusual collaborations and crossed genre borders, playing Tangos, creating 'New Worlds' with actor Bill Murray or playing in concert with Eric Clapton. Jan was born into a family of musicians in East Berlin. He studied with his father Peter Vogler, with Josef Schwab and with Heinrich Schiff. The New York Times praises his “soulful, richly hued playing” and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung grants him the ability “to make his cello speak like a singing voice”. Jan Vogler performs regularly with the worlds leading orchestras and conductors, highlights have been his collaborations with the New York Philharmonic, both is concert and in the studio, his performances of Strauss 'Don Quixote' with Fabio Luisi and concerts with Andris Nelsons, Kent Nagano, Manfred Honeck, Lorin Maazel and Antonio Pappano. His recording of the Dvorak Cello concerto with the New York Philharmonic won him a Diapason d'Or and a Choc du Monde de la Musique. He has been an exclusive recording artist with Sony Classical since 2003. During this inspired collaboration with Sony many interesting projects have been published, we hope you enjoy the wealth of cello sounds available with him here on Spotify.
