Biography

Founder of the Baroque chamber orchestra Modo Antiquo, Federico Maria Sardelli is an Italian composer, conductor, musicologist, and flutist. Since 1984, he has appeared at concerts and festivals with this group, and has conducted the Turin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Halle, the Potsdam Chamber Academy, the Real Filharmonía de Galicia, and the Chamber Orchestra of Mantova. He has been active in the revival of Vivaldi's music, recording Orlando furioso, Tito Manlio, Motezuma, Atenaide, and Arsilda, regina di Ponto for Naïve. Other recordings by Sardelli have appeared on Dynamic, Brilliant Classics, CPO, Opus 111, and Tactus. In addition to being a performer, Sardelli is also a scholar who has worked with the musicological committee of the Istituto Italiano Antonio Vivaldi, editing and publishing critical and facsimile editions of Vivaldi's works. A renaissance man, Sardelli pursues sideline careers in painting, engraving, and writing.
