Biography

A member of Hesperus and the Baltimore Consort, Mark Cudek performs on a wide range of early instruments, including the cittern, Renaissance and Baroque guitars, viols, crumhorns, and recorders. He received his early training in classical at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He was awarded first prize at the first annual Baltimore Chamber Music Competition. A frequent performer with Les Cordes du Roy, the Folger Consort, the Western Wind, Piffaro, Pomerium, and Apollo's Fire, he has appeared at numerous festivals, including the Boston Early Music Festival; the Tage Alter Music Festival, Regensburg; the Glasgow International Early Music Festival; the Vienna Konzerthaus; the Teatro Nacional, Panama; New York Metropolitan Museum; Spoleto Festival, Charleston; and the Kennedy Center. His recordings have been released on Dorian, Windham Hills, Linn, Greenhays, Golden Apple, and Maggie's Music. Cudek is active as an educator and has taught at the College of the Virgin Islands and Towson University in Baltimore. He is director of the Peabody Renaissance Ensemble at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and is the founder and director of the High School Early Music Program at the Interlochen Arts Camp in Interlochen, MI. In 2000, he began performing Renaissance era music of France, Spain, and England with singer Kristen Toedtman as Duo Encina.
