Biography

Lyricist Marty Symes remains a familiar name for three major songs composed during the 1930s. Born in Brooklyn in 1904, Symes wrote his first two hits, "Under a Blanket of Blue" and "It's the Talk of the Town," during the early '30s with Jerry Levinson and Al J. Neiburg. "There Is No Greater Love," written in 1936 with Isham Jones, became a standard thanks to versions by Jones himself, Guy Lombardo, Billie Holiday, and Al Hibbler, among others. Symes died in 1953. ~ John Bush, Rovi
