The New York-based, Cuban-American jazz pianist/composer Fabian Almazan is moving quickly, and he’s changing the genre along the way. As the founder and director of Biophilia Records, he has worked diligently toward ensuring a continued dialogue concerning music and environmental justice. All of these unique characteristics have given Almazan a distinct artistic voice in his imaginative compositions and colorful piano playing. The Fabian Almazan Trio’s double bassist Linda May Han Oh, a regular member of Almazan’s various ensembles, grew up in Perth, Australia and currently lives in New York. Praised as one of this generation’s greatest performers, Oh is in high demand with the likes of Joe Lovano, Steve Wilson, Vijay Iyer, Dave Douglas and Pat Metheny among others. The trio is completed by drummer Henry Cole who is at the forefront of a growing wave of jazz innovation and cross-cultural rhythm in the 21st century. He has proven indispensable to the sound of some of the world’s most acclaimed jazz groups, including Miguel Zenón, David Sánchez, The Gary Burton Quartet, Quincy Jone’s Global Gumbo and the all-star quartet ‘90 Miles’ featuring Sánchez and Stefon Harris.
