Biography

Born in Queens, New York, on August 3, 1926, Tony Bennett's illustrious music career is marked by unparalleled longevity and artistic excellence. His journey began in the Astoria section of Queens and blossomed after World War II performances during his military service. Discovered by Bob Hope in 1949, Bennett went on to sell millions of records, including chart-toppers like "Because of You," "Rags to Riches," and his signature, "(I Left My Heart) In San Francisco." His success spans across seven decades, with 24 Top 40 hits and nineteen GRAMMY Awards, including a GRAMMY for Record of the Year for his "MTV Unplugged" CD. A Kennedy Center Honoree, NEA Jazz Master, and recipient of the Citizen of the World award by the United Nations, Bennett's impact on music was profound. His collaborations with modern artists in the "Duets" series reinvigorated his popularity, leading to numerous #1 albums and a historic GRAMMY win at 88, making him the oldest artist to achieve this feat. His final performances were with Lady Gaga, culminating in the GRAMMY-winning "Love For Sale." Tony Bennett's legacy as a cornerstone of American music continues to inspire even after his passing in 2023.
