Biography

Atlantic Starr is a legendary R&B band that rose to prominence in the late 1970s and 1980s, known for their smooth blend of soulful melodies, tight harmonies, and romantic ballads. Originally formed in 1976 in White Plains, New York, the group was founded by brothers Wayne, David, and Jonathan Lewis, and their dynamic sound was defined by the powerful vocals of Sharon Bryant and later Barbara Weathers. Their early albums, like *Radiant* (1981) and *Brilliance* (1982), established them as a force in the R&B world, with hits such as “When Love Calls” and “Circles” showcasing their ability to create both danceable grooves and heartfelt love songs. Atlantic Starr’s mainstream breakthrough came with the release of their 1985 album *As the Band Turns*, featuring the smash hit “Secret Lovers,” a timeless classic that reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. They continued their success with the 1987 album *All in the Name of Love*, which included the chart-topping single “Always,” a romantic anthem that remains a staple at weddings and celebrations to this day. Over the decades, Atlantic Starr has undergone several lineup changes but has continued to create music that resonates with fans worldwide. Their legacy as one of the premier bands of the 80s is cemented by their timeless hits and their ability to blend smooth R&B with pop sensibilities, leaving an indelible mark on the genre.
