He produced various solo recordings and performed with the Daytona Boyz, gaining local attention and forming a cult-like fanbase. He skyrocketed to global fame upon the release of his 2017 hit song "The Race", which reached number 44 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum by the RIAA in January 2018. Tay-K was arrested in 2017 after cutting off his ankle monitor and fleeing house arrest in Texas.
