Biography

b. 14 October 1932, Evansville, Indiana, USA, d. 29 December 1997, Orlando, Florida, USA. Stiles played trumpet and flügelhorn in the late 60s and early 70s, in a studio band for the Merv Griffin and Dick Cavett shows. On the former, he met Bill Watrous, with whom he began an important musical relationship. He also played lead trumpet in Watrous’ Manhattan Wildlife Refuge big band. Throughoout his career Stiles played with artists including Jake Hanna, Gil Evans, Bette Midler, Jimmy Smith, Gerry Mulligan and Woody Herman.
