After abandoning the ranks of U.K. goth-rock purveyors Fields of the Nephilim toward the end of 1991 and taking the rights to their name with him, vocalist Carl McCoy seemed content to watch from the sidelines as his former colleagues crashed and burned under the new guise of Rubicon. But the singer was, in fact, already working on demos for his as-yet-unnamed next musical project, and after recruiting guitarist Paul Miles, bassist/programmer Cian Houchin, and drummer Simon Rippin, he announced that project's name to be Nefilim with the release of a 1995 single named "Xodus." This was followed one year later by another single, "Penetration," and the Nefilim's first and, as things panned out, last album, Zoon, which undertook a new direction blending goth, metal, and industrial elements. However, this failed to enjoy anywhere near as much acclaim as McCoy's previous band, so after waiting a few more years for relationships to mend, he reunited Fields of the Nephilim with his former band mates and seemingly laid Nefilim to rest for good. Meanwhile, when left to their own devices, Miles and Rippin went on to form a new band called Sensorium, while Houchin joined Saints of Eden. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi
