Biography

b. 20 November 1938, Alexandria, Virginia, USA, d. 6 April 2001, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. Gospel singer Danny Gaither began singing for communal audiences at the age of three - his mother accompanying him on the piano. Eventually he was joined by brother Bill Gaither, as well as his cousin, until that relation was replaced by sister Mary Ann. The trio, still accompanied by their mother, toured and played widely until each attended college. When they resumed the group in 1970 as a full-time touring ensemble, the Bill Gaither Trio rose to become one of gospel music’s most famous groups. However, in 1977 Danny left the group in order to record solo. He made his debut with Singing To The World for Impact Records in 1977. For his third collection, Sing A Song Of Love, he began work with producer Joe Huffman of Nashville company Benson (who own Impact). At this time he also convened his own backing group, and set out on the type of rigorous touring schedule which had been such a large part of the Bill Gaither Trio’s activities. He died after a five-year battle with lymphoma.
