Having performed many roles in radio, Haroldo Barbosa also had success as a composer of popular music. His hits were the marchinha "Barnabé," "De Conversa em Conversa" (recorded by Isaura Garcia in 1947), "Adeus, América" (recorded by the Os Cariocas and later by João Gilberto, who also recorded "Eu Quero um Samba" and "Pra Que Discutir com Madame?"); "Tintim por Tintim" (also recorded by the Os Cariocas); "Joãozinho Boa Pinta" (recorded by Fafá Lemos); "Palhaçada" (recorded by Miltinho, who also recorded "Meu Nome é Ninguém," "Devagar com a Louça," and "Só Vou de Mulher); "Tudo é Magnífico," "Nossos Momentos" (recorded by Elizeth Cardoso), "Fiz o Bobão" (recorded by Dóris Monteiro), and "Não se Aprende na Escola" (recorded by Araci de Almeida). Barbosa debuted on the radio in 1933 for Philips in the Programa Casé show. He accompanied the show in its move to Rádio Sociedade, also working at the Transmissora and Nacional. For the latter, Barbosa wrote the plot of César Ladeira's O Grande Teatro, one of the most popular shows of the period. Also on Nacional he organized a 68-figure orchestra and in 1945, he created the A Canção Romântica show, dedicated to support Francisco Alves, representing a turning point in the career of this extremely successful singer and composer. He was the director of the show Um Milhão de Melodias. In 1957, he became a TV professional as the writer of some of the most important comedy shows, like the Chico Anísio Show, O Riso É o Limite, and O Planeta dos Homens, always with his longtime partner Max Nunes. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
