Biography

In 1996, Geffen-signed New York band Hunk dissolved after their self-titled debut album. Drummer Brian Geltner and fellow bandmate Kenny Siegal soon formed the brilliant trio the Hand with Church of Betty leader Chris Rael, releasing a single, minor-classic album Mule Me, before morphing into the equally impressive rock band Johnny Society, all in the span of a couple years. Once Johnny Society had begun to establish itself with its first two albums, Geltner began to spend his spare time alone messing around on the piano, ultimately writing a series of melodies that would eventually turn into the solo side project Dr. Snitch. Entering his and Siegal's old studio space, The Kennel, along with engineer Danny Kadar at irregular intervals over the next couple years, Geltner laid down a bevy of Dr. Snitch tracks single-handedly, generally working quickly; completing the entire recording and mixing processes for an individual song in a mere four to six hours, playing all the instruments and performing all the overdubs himself. By 2000, he had enough tracks to collect for an album, Music for Uninspected Elevators, a series of film cues sans the actual film, that was released on Fang Records. The album led to a legitimate scoring opportunity for the Wes Jones 16mm short film The Blakey. Johnny Society reconvened in the studio to work on its fourth album the following year, while Geltner simultaneously started work on a second Dr. Snitch effort, this time with instrumental support from Siegal. ~ Stanton Swihart, Rovi
